Kay Murphy

Independent Consultant

Ms. Murphy has earned certification by SoCRA as a CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) and has also earned her CMT (Certified Medical Transcriptionist). As an English major with clinical trial research experience, Ms. Murphy provides consultation in medical writing, SOP development, and study-site start clinical trial research operations and serves on the SoCRA Editorial Board of The SoCRA Source. Her writing experience and appointments include Research Council member, Advocate Health Care, Oak Brook, Illinois, December 2002-continuing, Editorial Board for both the Journal of Advocate Health Care and Nursing Now.

Ms. Murphy’s teaching experience include participation as a faculty member and Chairperson of the Clinical Science Course, SoCRA, 2003, Certification Prep and Review Course, SoCRA, 2003, and co-creator and presenter of the SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) course for SoCRA, 2004. She also had the honor of serving as a SoCRA Board of Director’s member

As Manager, Office of Clinical Research, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Illinois over a four year period. Ms. Murphy performed all training providing support across the healthcare system and providing tutoring for the certification examination when requested by candidates for the SoCRA examination. She was responsible for designing classes and presentations in both clinical research and publishing for the Advanced Practice Nurses and the Residents throughout the hospital. The Department of Medicine office conducted over 50 open trials in four years, including about 20 homegrown in-house trials at any one time as it supported the Residency program with clinical research, from protocol concept to completion. Ms. Murphy was responsible for all managerial responsibilities as well, including budgeting, contracting, negotiation, and reporting, securing IRB approval, and human resources in the department.

Ms. Murphy served as “ghost writer” and editor of the in-house self-published Food for the Body & Soul, an anthology of inspirational stories from nurses with a collection of recipes in May of 2004. This publication received three wonderful reviews: one from a Chicago Tribune columnist, one from an NPR producer, and one from a book publisher, as well as her forward by a professor emerita in the humanities.

Prior, Ms. Murphy worked at the Loyola University Chicago in the Loyola-Hines Department of Radiation Oncology in the capacity of Clinical Research Coordinator and Transcription Supervisor.
